This is a three-year project of over £5m funded by the EC for Objective 5b areas through the European Social Fund (ESF) via the UK Government's Regional Challenge Bid programme (£2.3m).
Aims: To raise awareness of up-to-date information reaching the workforce; create telematics infrastructure; provide affordable and accessible university and college training programmes; make high quality value-added information sources available; trigger inward investment; contribute to telematics status of excellence for the SW.
Delivery: 40 local Innovation Centres at either level 2 or level 1 as follows:
LEVEL 2: - 10 centres
Located in existing centres such as schools, community centres,
each with:
10 PCs; ISDN links; Internet connection; Digital
videoconferencing equipment; satellite reception for video and
data; VCR and large screen TV.
Accessible to everyone within 50km in Objective 5b areas of Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.
LEVEL 1: - 30 centres
Located in existing centres (e.g. schools, libraries, community
centres) each with:
2-5 PCs; modem for electronic communication; satellite
reception for video and data; VCR + TV.
Accessible to everyone within 15km radium of Objective 5b area.
